Summer awakens your spirit with warm temperatures and long day light hours making it nearly impossible to stay indoors. Who would want to when there are vacations to take, swimming pools to occupy and barbeques to attend? For many people, hosting weekend get-togethers for friends and family is a summer tradition. This involves getting the house ready for company and includes everything from scrubbing the floors and cleaning windows to painting and remodeling. 

Part of getting your house ready is making sure you have a great outdoor space to entertain. Your deck or patio needs to have all the comforts of indoors – comfortable seating, space for the grill, ample shade and great views of the backyard.  This is why glass is an excellent choice for deck or patio surrounds. How to use glass

Deck or patio glass can be customized to fit any style decor. Glass panels can be accented with etched designs or patterns, tinted a soft color or painted and back lit with LED lights for illumination at night. Backlighting glass always adds interest to a space and no other surface material carries light in such a stunning way.

Coyote Glass created deck surrounds for a client who wanted a beach scene. To begin the process Melissa Paxton, co-owner of Coyote Glass and glass artist, sketched the beach scene on panels of glass and sandblasted the design.

Glass is great choice for a backsplash because of its durability and ease of cleaning. It is as strong as any natural stone and is scratch and stain resistant. The surface of glass is non-porous, hygienic, and does not require sealants. A simple glass cleaner is all it takes to wipe away dirt. Edges can be back lit with LED lights to produce an illuminating glow that only glass can create.

Customize

Not only is glass easy to care for, it offers limitless design options. Glass can be painted, frosted, carved, textured or cast into any shape or form. Glass can be left translucent to reflect natural light, frosted for a touch of privacy, tinted for a soft finish or painted with opaque colors.

The surface of glass can be impressed with unlimited textures or patterns making it totally customizable. No matter what style you have, traditional or ultra-contemporary, glass can be designed to fit you décor.  

Morrison Showroom Backsplash

Coyote Glass created a kitchen backsplash for Morrison Supply Company – Springdale location - in Austin, Texas. Morrison recently finished remodeling the showroom at their Springdale location.

The backsplash contains seven panels created in the “Zen” texture and four solid textured panels. The glass is kiln cast with a raised texture and thin lines that look like raked sand. The Zen glass backsplash is easy to clean, does not show fingerprints and looks good clear or painted.

The second Coyote Glass kitchen backsplash in the Morrison Austin showroom is the Silver Blue Canyon. This smaller backsplash was created using one of our top designs and custom colors. The glass is handcarved and back painted with silver metal inlay.

A Form with Variety

Glass offers unmatched design flexibility compared to wood, acrylic or metal. Glass can be kiln-fired, slumped, blown, sand blasted, etched and made into a thousand different textures and painted any color. With all the design and color options it’s easy to overlook a simple choice – translucent.

Translucent glass has the ability to be dramatic and striking, and at the same time simple and eloquent. It can be the highlight or focal point of a room or it can act as a supporting feature of the décor.

Translucent Textured Pedestal

Coyote Glass designed this custom pedestal sink for Central Arizona Supply in Mesa, AZ. Coyote artists used Starfire glass – the purest white or clear glass available. The pedestal was created with a fired-on Granite texture and cast over a mold to form the tapered leg. The bow front countertop measures 24” x 40”.

The pedestal leg measures 30 ¼” x 16 ½”, tapering down to 9” x ¾”.

The pedestal sink is finished with a Coyote Glass Ocean handcarved round glass sink. Truly a masterpiece!

The building exterior melds glass, steel, textures and strong angles to create a modern look that reflects the type of products showcased inside. The architecturally stylish entrance ushers you in to be greeted by a dazzling light feature seems to float in mid-air. The circular path of the showroom guides you from one kitchen vignette to the next, with each one representing a different style ranging from tradition to contemporary.

 Vignettes

Every kitchen vignette is fully functional with Sub-Zero refrigerators and Wolf stovetops. All the cabinetry, bar tops, sinks, lighting and furniture were chosen from a select network of manufacturers. These vignettes show how beautifully all the elements blend together.

People

The Grand Opening event attracted many professionals – designers, architects and manufactures. Coyote Glass was happy to see our friends from Bentwood Luxury Kitchens: Randy Pittard, owner of Bentwood Luxury Kitchens, Jeff Sandifer, owner of Bentwood of Naples and Colin Snider, new owner of Bentwood of Dallas.

Bentwood Dallas asked Coyote Glass to create a glass kitchen backsplash that would complement their modern kitchen cabinets for one of the vignettes in the Sub-Zero Wolf showroom. We were so delighted they asked us! For this project we created a new texture for the backsplash called “Zen”. It is kiln cast glass with a raised texture and thin lines that look like raked sand. The Zen glass backsplash is easy to clean, does not show fingerprints and looks good clear or painted. To match Bentwood’s black cabinetry we backpainted the backsplash a gun metal gray and applied a silver metal inlay.
